David Shein, MD

Dr. Shein brings over 25 years of clinical experience, and a background in academics to his primary care practice.
He explains that true primary care delivers complete care.  In fact, Dr. Shein authored an article in a major medical journal on the importance of primary care*.
“My focus is providing care in a traditional way. I believe in the value of the medical examination and taking time to listen to patients about their health conditions, review health records, explain recommended treatment options, and together we discuss how best to manage the important issues in their health.”
When patients see Dr. Shein, the examination is centered on them; there are no computers in the exam room (which distract many other doctors from facing their patients).
He explains the importance of balance, “focusing on my patients, but also using technology”.  The office computer system is used for medical record keeping, access to lab results for patients, and communicating with their other doctors.

Dr. Shein served on the faculty of Harvard Medical School for over 20 years; in 2015 he was promoted to Assistant Professor.  He is an Adjunct Associate Professor at the New England College of Optometry, and Co-editor of a textbook, Clinical Medicine for Optometrists.  He has served on the Friends of Brookline Public Health when living in Brookline, and when he moved to Newton, he was appointed (by then Mayor Cohen) to the Newton Public Health Advisory Committee.

At Wellesley Internal Medicine and Wellesley Personal Care, whether you are seen for an annual physical, a new health issue, or for an existing health condition, you receive comprehensive care, delivered with experience and compassion.

When not in the office, you may find Dr. Shein in his workshop, UpCycle: Unexpected Art, and sometimes, hanging his works in a local museum or establishment. Visit www.upcycle.space to see his work and where it is on display.
